About Gematria Guru
Gematria Guru is a free calculator for Hebrew, English and Greek gematria. Enter a word and it returns the value in eight systems at once, showing the value of every letter so the total can be checked by hand.
Who writes this site
Gematria Guru was built by Daniel Lozovsky, a software engineer who got tired of gematria calculators that were slow, ad-choked, or quietly wrong about cipher math. This site is the tool he wanted: every cipher implemented from published definitions, results you can check by hand, and no interpretation layered on top of the numbers. He builds and maintains it independently.
Articles here carry a real byline. Earlier versions of this site published posts under author names that did not correspond to real people; those bylines have been corrected.
What the calculator does
- English Gematria (Latin). Each letter takes its position in the alphabet, A=1 through Z=26, and the values are added together.
- English Reverse (Latin). The alphabet is counted backwards, Z=1 through A=26, so every letter takes the mirror of its ordinal value.
- Pythagorean Gematria (Latin). Letters cycle through the digits 1 to 9. A=1 to I=9, then J=1 to R=9, then S=1 to Z=8.
- English Sumerian (Latin). Each letter takes its ordinal position multiplied by six, so A=6 through Z=156. A word's Sumerian total is therefore always six times its English Ordinal total.
- Jewish Gematria (Hebrew). The 22 Hebrew letters take fixed values: Aleph to Tet are 1-9, Yod to Tsadi count in tens, and Qof to Tav count in hundreds up to 400.
- Mispar Gadol (Hebrew). Identical to the standard value, except the five final letter forms carry their own values from 500 to 900 instead of repeating the base letter.
- Hebrew Ordinal (Hebrew). The Hebrew letters are numbered 1 to 22 by alphabetical position, so Aleph=1 and Tav=22.
- Greek Isopsephy (Greek). Greek letters take values from 1 to 900, including the archaic letters digamma (6), qoppa (90) and sampi (900).
On accuracy and interpretation
The arithmetic is fixed. Every letter table published on this site is generated from the same code that computes your result, so a chart here cannot disagree with the calculator.
What a number means is a different question. Gematria is a historical interpretive practice, and two words sharing a value is an arithmetic fact rather than evidence of a connection between them. This site reports the numbers and leaves the reading to you.
